Surveying a property for a borehole site

01

Boreholes for homes and smallholdings

Hillcrest and the surrounding Highway Area mix suburban homes and estates with smallholdings, equestrian properties and small farms. A garden borehole for a house is one job; water for horses, livestock and irrigation on a few hectares is another. We size every system to the property, starting with a site survey.

On larger properties the borehole is often a long way from the house or stables. A solar pump avoids running power out to it, and a JoJo tank stores the day’s water where you need it.

02

Drilling into Highway Area rock

Like Kloof below it, the Highway Area is mostly hard sandstone and tillite, with groundwater held in fractures deep in the rock. That calls for heavy rock drilling: a DTH air percussion hammer, steel casing to bedrock, and a yield test once the water is struck, so the pump matches what the borehole can give.

03

Living in an estate?

Many Hillcrest estates have rules about drilling approval, working hours and contractor access. Check with your HOA before booking and tell Kelvin, so the job is planned around the estate’s requirements.

Questions, answered

Common questions

Do you drill boreholes in Botha’s Hill and Assagay?

Yes. We cover Hillcrest, Botha’s Hill, Waterfall, Assagay, Alverstone, Summerveld and the rest of the Highway Area.

Can a borehole supply horses and livestock?

Yes, if the yield is there. A yield test shows how much water the borehole can give, and we size the pump and storage to the animals and land you need to supply.

What if the borehole is far from the house?

A solar pump needs no power cable from the house, which makes it a natural fit for a borehole at the far end of a property. It fills a tank by day, and the tank feeds the house or stables.
