Service · Water treatmentBorehole water filtration & reverse osmosis.

Borehole water comes from deep in the rock and is often clean and clear, but it can carry sediment, iron, hardness or other minerals. We fit multi-stage filtration and reverse osmosis systems chosen around what’s actually in your water.

Clear groundwater flowing from a newly drilled borehole

01

Who it’s for

Homeowners who want to drink and cook with their borehole water. Anyone whose water is cloudy, stains basins and laundry, tastes metallic or leaves scale on kettles and geysers. Businesses that need consistent water quality.

Groundwater in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, especially near the coast and in shale areas, can carry dissolved salts, iron and manganese. And any borehole can pick up bacteria such as E. coli if surface water finds a way in.

The aim is water that meets SANS 241, South Africa’s drinking water standard. What it takes to get there depends on your borehole, which is why we start from a water test rather than a one-size-fits-all filter.

What we install

  • Sediment & carbon filtration

Multi-stage “big blue” sediment and carbon filters take out sand, silt and particles and improve taste and smell, protecting your pumps, geyser and appliances. Often the first stage of any system.

  • UV sterilisation

Ultraviolet light kills bacteria such as E. coli as the water flows past, with no chemicals. Fitted after the filters, so the water reaching it is clear.

  • Reverse osmosis (RO)

A fine membrane that removes dissolved salts and minerals that ordinary filters can’t. Usually fitted for drinking water, at the kitchen tap or for the whole house.

  • Whole-house or point-of-use

Treat all the water coming into the house, or just the water you drink. Kelvin will help you weigh the cost against what your water needs.

How we approach filtration

  1. 01

    Test the water

A water test shows what’s in your borehole water: sediment, iron, hardness, salts or bacteria. It’s the only honest way to choose a system.

  2. 02

    Choose the stages

We match the filtration to the results, from a simple sediment filter to a multi-stage system with reverse osmosis.

  3. 03

    Install

The system is plumbed in after your pump or tank, so every litre that reaches the tap has been through it.

  4. 04

    Maintain

Filters and membranes need replacing on a schedule. We’ll tell you what to change and when.

“I recently had a borehole drilled on my property, all went good! They are professional, and the water quality is exceptional.”

Questions, answered

Common questions

Is borehole water safe to drink?

Often, but you can’t tell by looking at it. Have the water tested: it shows whether it meets SANS 241, South Africa’s drinking water standard, and what treatment it needs if it doesn’t.

What if my borehole water has bacteria in it?

If a water test finds bacteria such as E. coli, a UV steriliser after the filters kills them as the water flows through. It’s also worth checking the borehole’s seal and cap, which is usually how bacteria get in.

Why does my borehole water stain basins orange or brown?

That’s usually iron or manganese dissolved in the groundwater. A water test confirms it, and the right filtration can treat it.

Do I need reverse osmosis or just a filter?

A sediment filter takes out particles; reverse osmosis takes out dissolved salts and minerals too. If your water is clear but tastes salty or leaves heavy scale, RO is usually the answer. The water test decides.
